TEEN SHOWCASE

This Friday, my students from the “Step Up on Set” video production class will be showcasing their final group projects. “Independent Ladies Anthem” by Latinas Finas (music video), and “True Identity” a coming of age short film. I’m really proud of these girls. We worked really hard to make it all come together, and it will be great to see the final product.
Women are encouraged to come out! Come check out young girls sharing their stories of struggle, issues, and more. The event is FREE with RSVP. There’s usually food, beverages, and music. Just click the link below to RSVP:

Step Up Teen Programs
Step Up Teen Programs aim to mentor, inspire and empower high school girls in underserved communities to achieve their dreams and reach their full potential. We do this through innovative after-school and Saturday programming that helps girls develop into the “total woman” – one who is confident, college-ready, career minded and engaged in Step Up’s cycle of philanthropy.

Inspired Voices Program
The Inspired Voices Spoken Word/Poetry Program covered three key topics: Being a Woman in Today’s Society, Inspiration, and Dreams. Students reviewed literature pertinent to the topics of interest and each girl was given an opportunity to explore her individual voice as a poet through in-class exercises and critiques.
Step Up on Set Program
Step Up on Set empowers teen girls to learn about the collaborative art of filmmaking and creative expression. Students explore the daily issues they face as young women to develop a storyline. Through guided weekly classes, students learn the entire process of film production from determining the theme and writing a script, carrying out all production tasks, to the filming of the finished short.
